Zachary Taylor was born on November 24, 1784 in Orange County, Virginia. Taylor's parents were traveling from Virginia to their new home in Kentucky and had stopped along the way at the Montebello planation for a period of time. Taylor was born on the plantation in what is believed to be a log cabin. The original structure no longer exists and the Montebello planation is privately owned and not open to the public. A Virginia historical marker at the site is accessible.
