The community of Jersey Homesteads was created as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program. Jersey Homesteads was renamed Roosevelt in 1945 to honor the recently deceased President who was responsible for the community's founding. The five foot tall bust of Roosevelt is located in an amphitheater that includes the historical marker shown below explaining how the borough was named for FDR. The bust was sculpted in 1961 by Jonathan Shahn. The base that the bust sits on reads: Franklin Delano Roosevent In Homage.
