There have been 3 Presidents of the United States that have been impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives: Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton, and Donald Trump, with Trump having been impeached twice. The impeachment process charges the accused of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. The Senate holds a trial presided over by the Chief Justice to hear the evidence and each individual senator has one vote to convict or acquit. A two-thirds majority vote is required for conviction and subsequent removal from office. To date, no president has been convicted through the impeachment process although Johnson and Trump received a simple majority of votes to convict. Trump's second acquittal occurred after he left office.
