This monument was designed by Beniamino Bufano in 1969 and as indicated on the plaque below it was created from about 2,000 handguns through a 1968 voluntary gun return program in San Francisco and was inspired by the then, recent assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, Sr. who are pictured on the monument along with assassinated presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. It is located in front of Science Hall on the City College of San Francisco campus.
