James Garfield Historical Marker at the site of his death

Address: 6 Garfield Road, (Elberon) Long Branch, New Jersey

After being struck by an assassin's bullet on July 2, 1881, James Garfield died in a home in the unincorporated community of Elberon in Long Branch, New Jersey on September 19, 1881. The home in which he died no longer exists, but is marked by the stone shown in the photos below.
